Virgil leaned back against the doorway and stared at the man sleeping peacefully on the bed, unaware of the chaos coloring the world dark around him. His mate, his beautiful, bouncy mate was his most hated enemy.

How had that happened? How had fate allowed that to happen? Was he being punished for something? Had he not given up enough to protect his people? Did he have to give up his mate as well? Virgil growled as that thought swirled from him. He swung around and punched the wall, watching the plaster shattered around his fist.

It wasn’t fucking fair!

“Virgil?”

Tears sprang to Virgil’s eyes at the sweet sound of Eddie’s sleepy voice. “Yeah, baby?”

“Is something wrong?”

There were so many ways to answer that question. After what had happened to his family when Timmins and Douglas had tried to take over their wolf pack and sell the members to vampires for their blood, Virgil had sworn off vampires. He knew his brother had made friends with Prince Zacarius Ivinovav, but Virgil hadn’t. He hated every bloodsucker out there.

Except maybe the one in the bed behind him.

“No, Eddie, everything is okay.” Virgil plastered a smile on his face as he turned to look at Eddie. “How did you sleep?”

Eddie rubbed his eyes before dropping his hands to his lap. “Where are we?”

“Some motel off the highway.”

“Oh.” A frown wrinkled Eddie’s face as he glanced around. “Did I imagine that my father was here?”

Virgil chuckled despite the ache in his chest. “No, he’s asleep in the other room.”

A mischievous smile wove across Eddie’s face. “So, we’re alone then?”

All of the blood in Virgil’s head seemed to drain down and pool in his groin at Eddie’s husky words. While his cock seemed to always be hard around Eddie, now it was aching, needing.

“Eddie,” Virgil groaned.

He knew this conversation with Eddie was important, that they had a lot of things that they needed to work out. He just couldn’t quite remember exactly what they were. The only thought that made sense to him at that moment was feeling Eddie’s naked body pressed against his.

Needing to be inside of Eddie in the next sixty seconds, Virgil stripped his clothes off in record time, tossing items left and right. The need to claim his mate again and insure that Eddie still belonged to him was overriding whatever qualms he had about being mated to a vampire. They could figure that shit out later. Reclaiming his mate was more important.

Virgil grabbed the lube out of his jeans and crawled up onto the bed. He reached for the zipper on Eddie’s jeans and worked it down slowly until his knuckles brushed against Eddie’s abdomen. He chuckled when he heard Eddie moan, glad that he wasn’t the only one aroused. He slowly stripped Eddie’s clothes from his body, baring Eddie’s naked skin inch by glorious inch.

Eddie was a visual feast, and Virgil was a starving man.

Virgil leaned over Eddie. He placed one hand on each side of Eddie’s head and rested his weight on them before bending down for a quick kiss.
